A cluttered kitchen can be the stuff of nightmares. They’re difficult to keep clean, impossible to manage and can make cooking a huge palaver.
Fret not, as there are a few simple solutions to maximising the storage space you have available by simply reorganising its contents. We’ve outlined three easy ways below:
Have A Clearout
If you’re struggling for cupboard space, the first and most obvious thing you should do is throw out anything you’re holding onto which has expired or anything that is likely to expire before you get around to using it. This includes any interesting flavoured tea bags you bought on a whim or gifts from well-meaning friends and family that you know aren’t ever going to get used. Any unwanted items of value can be passed onto others who may use them or perhaps even flogged online.
Don’t just focus on your pantry – get rid of duplicate cooking utensils, unused crockery, etc. that may be cluttering up your kitchen storage space. You don’t need three different wooden spoons, and it is a wonder how we can accumulate so many different varieties of cheese grater. Donate them to students in need, Freecycle them or just chuck them out.
Once your kitchen drawers only contain the stuff you actually use, you will find the space much more efficient and it will be easier to find the things you need when you need them!
If You’ve Got It, Flaunt It
You may well have a nice matching set of pots and pans or perhaps some well co-ordinated mugs which would not look out of place on display. Save room in your kitchen cupboards by showing off these items on countertops, for instance with a cute mug tree or a pretty spice rack.
Another benefit of keeping items you use frequently out of storage is that you don’t have to rummage around looking for things when it comes to using them.
Stick Up Some Shelves
Your big kitchen cupboard may not be utilising its space in the most efficient way possible – if you have a lot of Tupperware and flasks lingering at the bottom there may be a vast amount of empty space not being used in the top portion of the unit.
Rather than cramming everything in and creating a terrifying game of Jenga every time you want to make a packed lunch, a good way of making the most of this space is to install some shelving units within the cabinets, so you can organise and stack your kitchenware in a way that looks appealing and makes navigation easier.
